Iskak Anarbekov: We provide a platform for farmers at fairs for free
In Bishkek, a new cycle of weekly fairs dedicated to socially significant food products has started. These events are aimed at stabilizing prices and ensuring food accessibility for those in vulnerable situations.

Iskak Anarbekov, the curator of the fairs and head of the project implementation sector of public-private partnerships at the Ministry of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, told VB.KG about the necessary documents for farmers, requirements for participants, and plans to improve the organization of events.

- The fairs are organized at the request of Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry. The ministry invites farmers, artisans, and domestic producers who wish to participate. The products must be of high quality and environmentally friendly, and the prices should be lower than market prices.

Farmers wishing to sell their products need to provide a letter from the district agricultural management of the Ministry of Agriculture.

The fair is taking place at the Old Square, in front of the Supreme Court building, and will operate until mid-May 2026. The event is organized in collaboration with the Bishkek city administration and other government agencies. More than 100 farmers and companies have already confirmed their participation. We are awaiting new applications. The main goal is to curb the rise in prices for socially significant products and support local farmers and processors.

We are open to producers and processors willing to offer affordable prices for food for vulnerable groups of the population.

- What products are we talking about? Does this concern all categories of food or only certain ones?

- Yes, there is a list of socially significant goods, which includes flour, milk and dairy products, potatoes, as well as all types of meat. For example, currently, the price of lamb ranges from 650 to 680 soms, and for beef, from 650 to 690 soms. We hope that this coming weekend, the meat cluster will join us, which will allow us to expand the range and lower prices.

At the moment, there is a rise in prices for vegetable oil due to a shortage of raw materials. At the fair, you can find safflower oil: the price ranges from 200 to 300 soms per liter depending on the producer.

We urge farmers to contact us at the ministry for a free platform. The main requirements are: the products must be environmentally friendly, prices must be lower than market prices, and for supplies from the regions, a confirming letter from the district agricultural development management must be provided.

- At the "Altyn Kuz" exhibition, the best farmers and districts were awarded. Are the winners participating in these fairs? Are there plans for competitions among participants?

- Yes, the competition was held in six nominations. The three best districts participating in the fair were awarded: first place went to the Sokuluk district, second to the Kadamjai district, and third to the Aksy and Leilek districts.

The commission assessed the quality of the products, export potential, compliance with standards, assortment, and packaging. Awards were given for the best exposition, the best processing company, and the best farmer.

We also plan to recognize the best participants at the Sunday fairs to create healthy competition and raise the overall level of the events.

- Are there any innovations expected in the organization of the fairs?

- Yes, we strive to raise awareness among farmers and create a positive atmosphere. We invite creative teams, ensembles, and representatives of all diasporas, as well as embassies accredited in Kyrgyzstan.

Additionally, we are ready to consider educational projects and programs dedicated to healthy eating, sanitation, agronomy, modern agricultural technologies, and rational water use. We are open to collaboration and await proactive participants.

- Where exactly will the fairs take place and until when?
