The Ministry of Agriculture of the Kyrgyz Republic named breeding livestock as the key to saving pastures

During a live broadcast on the program "Ala-Too Live," Zhanibek Kerimaliev, the First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of the Kyrgyz Republic, discussed the main directions for the development of agriculture ahead of the agro-industrial forum "Agrodialog-2026." He noted that to address the problem of pasture degradation in the republic, it is necessary to focus not on increasing the number of livestock but on enhancing its productivity.

According to ministry specialists, transitioning to high-yield breeds of livestock can reduce the load on pastures by up to 5%. This means that maintaining fewer animals with high meat and milk production rates will be more profitable both economically and environmentally for the agricultural sector.

As part of this strategy, high-quality genetic material from elite breeds such as Aberdeen-Angus, Simmental, and Swedish has already been imported into the country. The seed material is distributed among farmers through veterinary and technical services. Additionally, as part of the state program for the development of breeding livestock, farmers are provided with consulting support.

The assessment of the initial results of the project for introducing new breeds is scheduled for the fall, when experts will analyze the growth and productivity indicators of the animals. Based on this data, the ministry will draw conclusions about the effectiveness of this initiative. The agency is confident that the emphasis on breeding livestock will serve as the foundation for the conservation of the country's natural resources and the enhancement of the competitiveness of Kyrgyzstan's agriculture.
