The Central Bank of Uzbekistan has issued a directive to commercial banks and payment systems to implement a new feature that requires users to specify the purpose of payment when making card-to-card (P2P) transfers. Now, in mobile applications during transactions, users will need to select the appropriate category.

According to the new requirements, the sender will have to choose the purpose of the transfer from a proposed list that includes 16 categories. These include items such as transfers to relatives, payment for various services, debt repayment, charitable contributions, as well as expenses for groceries and other household payments.

Some commercial banks have already managed to implement this feature, while others are gradually transitioning to the new format.

The Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan noted that this innovation is of a technical nature. It is aimed at more accurate statistics on cash flows and improving the algorithms for processing financial transactions. It should be emphasized that all collected data remains within the banking systems and, as the regulator claims, is not shared with third parties.
