Kairykul Akmatova, a 60-year-old resident of the village of Kyzyl-Tuu in the Ton district of the Issyk-Kul region, is actively engaged in handicrafts.

She studied to become a librarian at a technical school in the city of Tokmok.

“I have been involved in handicrafts for about 20-25 years. In my works, you can find shyrdaks and kiyiz, as well as various felt products such as seat cushions and slippers. Every detail is important in this process,” Kairykul shares.

Her family also participates in assembling yurts, which are a symbol of Kyrgyz culture. She passes her skills on to her children and grandchildren and takes orders for making yurts. The cost of the work depends on the size, design, and production time, as well as the specifics of the finishing both inside and outside,” she added.

Additionally, Kairykul has a small farm where she raises chickens.

When she has free time, she prefers to spend it with her grandchildren.

“I dream of popularizing the yurt and other elements of Kyrgyz culture beyond our country,” she concluded.
