The village of Sasyk-Bulak is located in the rural district of Bekmoldo, in the Talas region.

More than 2,200 residents live here.

The village has a sports hall, a school, a cultural center, a village administration building, a medical and maternity center, and mosques.

The local elders, 81-year-old Elchibek Barmanaliyev and 88-year-old Zholdosh Erkeganov, shared the origin of the name of their settlement.

“Initially, our village was supposed to be named Saz-Bulak. However, due to the swamp located in the mountain hollow between two mountains to the east, it became Sasyk-Bulak. A spring flows from the mountain, and oil accumulates on the surface of the swamp. Approaching this place, one can feel a sharp unpleasant smell. Thus, our ancestors named the village Sasyk-Bulak (where sasyk means stinky, and bulak means spring). Over time, geologists have visited here and discovered a source of diesel fuel. We often encounter this place when we go to the barns for livestock,” they said.
