The village of Orgochor is located in the Jeti-Oguz district of the Issyk-Kul region.

During the Soviet Union, this village became popular due to the local residents raising Kyrgyz fine-wool sheep.

Initially, there were only a few families here, as well as barns built for storing feed and barrack-type houses.

In 1932, a state farm was established in Orgochor, after which the government began constructing sheepfolds and housing. The new sheep farming enterprise was headed by V. Voronov.

Since 1956, the village has been engaged in breeding pedigree sheep. In 1960, the Issyk-Kul Sheep Breeding Station was established based on the breeding farm, which provided the country with quality small livestock and distinguished itself with high production rates of wool and breeding stock, earning the Red Banner of the USSR. More than 30 livestock breeders became laureates of the Lenin Order. Jamake Tynaev, the senior shepherd of the Orgochor experimental station, was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor.

Currently, the village is inhabited by representatives of various ethnic groups. As a result of an administrative reform, the Orgochor ayil aimak combines the villages of Orgochor, Ak-Shyyrak, Ak-Dobo, and Svetlaya Polyana, with Orgochor becoming the administrative center.

At present, about 6,000 people live here.

The village elders tell several legends about the origin of its name.

According to one of them, the village was named after two brothers — Orgo and Chor, where Orgo translates to "hill," and Chor — to "spring."

Another legend tells of a man who lived to be a hundred years old. The locals were curious about his secret to longevity. The elder shared his recipe: he always rode horseback and consumed clarified butter.

In modern times, the residents of Orgochor continue to place great importance on animal husbandry.

Some of them still breed pedigree sheep.

The village is located just three kilometers from Kyzyl-Suu, the district center.
