The renovation work for the village is scheduled for 2026. The Osh mayor's office will begin implementing the infrastructure and housing upgrade project in the coming years.
At a meeting with residents on December 4, Mayor Zhenishbek Toktorbaev discussed key aspects of the upcoming changes. As part of the project, the demolition of residential and social facilities will begin next year, after which new multi-story and single-story houses, a school, a kindergarten, a family doctor center, a mosque, and a park will be built in their place.
The village of Zhany-Maala, which has about 4,000 residents, was incorporated into the city of Osh in 2024 as a result of an administrative-territorial reform.
“If we hide problems, they will only worsen. Your village is one of the most disadvantaged in the city. I witnessed the difficult living conditions during a raid. Previously, you were part of the Kara-Suu district, and now you have become part of the city of Osh. Nothing has changed here in the last 40 years. I came here as a child, and the situation remains the same. Some have lived here for 80 years. We have agreed on plans for the renovation of this area. The area of your settlement is 49 hectares, with a population of 3,900 people. You are too close to the wastewater treatment facilities, which violates the norms that require a distance of 500 meters. We plan to move the residential area 250 meters away and build multi-story buildings up to five stories high. The reconstruction will be carried out in stages, and no one will be left without housing. We will also build a new school for 12 years of education, as you currently have only a four-year school. We will eliminate unpleasant odors caused by the proximity to the treatment facilities. Additionally, a park, a kindergarten, and single-story houses will be created. Construction will begin in early spring, and we will take into account the interests of all families,” noted Mayor Z. Toktorbaev.
The head of the village of Zhany-Maala, Umidullo Narmyrzaev, added that local residents support the idea of building individual houses but are against multi-story buildings.
