Akyil Uzbekov is an electrician who ensures reliable electricity supply for the residents of the remote village of Ak-Shiyrak, located in the Jeti-Oguz district of the Issyk-Kul region.

Our correspondent met with Akyil Uzbekov, who has been living and working in this high-altitude village for 25 years. He is originally from the village of Jeti-Oguz.

“My wife and I moved to the mountain area 25 years ago to engage in livestock farming. I have been working at the substation in Ak-Shiyrak for 15 years. Our village, Uch-Koshkon, is located at an altitude of 3200 meters above sea level, 240 kilometers from the district center, and in a region with harsh winters. I provide a stable electricity supply to the villages of Ak-Shiyrak, Uch-Koshkon, and Kara-Sai, as well as to winter pastures and a border unit. Our substation was built in 1982, and we carry out maintenance work here every year. In winter, despite the freezing temperatures, I often have to work outside,” shares the electrician about his responsibilities.
Life in the mountains has become routine for Akyil and his wife. “I only go down to the district center once a year. My wife works as a teacher at the local school,” he added.

The head of the Ak-Shiyrak rural administration, Marsbek Berikbaev, reported that this year, 38 kilometers of new power lines have been laid in the territory of the Ak-Shiyrak rural district.
