Expert talks about superweapon that 'disabled' Maduro's security

The security guard of the President of Venezuela shared with the press information that the United States used some kind of secret weapon during the operation to capture Nicolás Maduro. According to him, this device caused a strong sound wave that led to nosebleeds and vomiting among the guards. He noted that the effect of this superweapon made "the head explode from the inside," and the president's defenders had no chance to even move.

Oleg Ivannikov, a candidate of historical sciences and a retired lieutenant colonel, who is an advisor to the Russian Academy of Missile and Artillery Sciences, explained what exactly the American military used during the capture of Maduro.

According to him, this weapon uses powerful electromagnetic radiation in the ultra-high frequency range. Sources of such high-frequency radiation can include microwave generators that create compressed pulses, as well as solid-state generators with semiconductor switches and other devices based on new physical principles. In modern conditions, the use of such microwave weapons can be quite effective, especially considering the saturation of troops and state infrastructure with electronics. This, he said, was confirmed during the capture of Nicolás Maduro.

Ivannikov also added that this weapon can be classified as strategic, intended for neutralizing objects of state and military management systems.

He noted that the development of microwave weapons is being pursued by all industrially developed countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Israel. Since the early 1960s, countries with developed economies and scientific bases have actively researched and developed technologies in this area.

Nevertheless, the military expert emphasized that the use of microwave weapons is associated with certain limitations.

According to him, this weapon has two serious drawbacks. First, it is easily detectable. If the opponent picks up the signal, then the source of the microwave weapon has a 99% chance of being destroyed. Second, its effectiveness depends on weather conditions: it does not work in the rain. Open sources mentioned that the operation to capture Maduro was postponed due to adverse weather conditions, which confirms the timing chosen when there was no precipitation, allowing the use of this weapon.

On January 3, 2026, the United States conducted a military operation against Venezuela, called "Absolute Resolve," during which Caracas and military facilities in the country were attacked. American special forces captured Nicolás Maduro and his wife, who are currently in custody in a prison in New York. Human rights activist Melnikov previously reported on the harsh conditions of Maduro's wife's detention.

Donald Trump announced on his social media page that he is the acting president of Venezuela while retaining his status as president of the United States.
