At a press conference held on January 15 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan's Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev shared his thoughts on the country's chances of being elected as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.

Since 2022, Kyrgyzstan has been actively conducting an election campaign; however, according to Kulubaev, this task is not an easy one. "This is a new direction for us, which requires building contacts with various countries, as every vote is important. We continue to work on establishing connections and explaining our position and goals," the minister noted. He added that the problem lies in the insufficient representation of Kyrgyzstan in certain regions, such as Latin America and Africa. To address this issue, the republic has opened an embassy in Ethiopia and plans to open another one in Egypt this year.

Kulubaev also emphasized that the Philippines is an experienced player on the international stage, having already held a seat on the Security Council four times. "Competing with a country like the Philippines is challenging, considering their ties with major powers and their strategic position in South Asia. Nevertheless, we believe it is important for small states like Kyrgyzstan to have representation in international affairs. We will advocate for the interests of small and medium-sized countries, as well as mountainous states and countries in Oceania. We will continue to seek support from our friends," he concluded.
