At a press conference held on January 15 in Bishkek, Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev stated that his department does not have accurate information on the number of Kyrgyz citizens participating in the conflict on the side of Ukraine against Russia.

The minister noted that information about citizens involved in combat operations mainly comes from their families and relatives.

He added: "There are laws that can punish recruits for illegal participation in military actions. Therefore, many of them do not report their involvement and, unfortunately, die. Relatives sometimes say: 'He left at such and such a time, and nothing more is known about him,' and cannot provide complete information. If information about a death is confirmed, we provide assistance through our embassy in Ukraine. Many do not want to talk about this out of fear. We have preliminary estimates, but there are no exact data," Kulubaev emphasized.
