Chinese universities have changed the global academic hierarchy

In a recent report by the Leiden Ranking, it is noted that the global structure of scientific research has undergone significant changes. Harvard University, which has been a symbol of Western education for many years, now ranks only third in terms of research productivity.

The leading position has been taken by Zhejiang University, while Shanghai Jiao Tong University occupies the second place. This significant change in the academic environment highlights China's success, which is now represented in the top ten of the ranking with eight universities.

Furthermore, the only Western university that has maintained its position in the top 10 alongside Harvard is the University of Toronto. Experts note that these results reflect not only the quantitative growth of publications but also the qualitative development of Chinese science, which is confidently pushing traditional leaders from the USA and Europe out of the way.

These changes create new challenges for American universities and underscore the shift of the center of global intellectual production towards Asia.
