A serious development in the field of film production is planned in Kyrgyzstan, including the creation of the country's first film studio and a modern sound studio space. Deputy Minister of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy Marat Tagaev announced this at a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh.
According to him, the Department of Cinematography has set ambitious goals for 2026. The project for the construction of the film studio has already been included in the title list, and work on its implementation will begin in collaboration with the Ministry of Construction.
Marat Tagaev emphasized that currently many domestic filmmakers are forced to seek quality dubbing in other countries, which costs them between 15,000 to 20,000 dollars.
“We plan to open a Dolby Atmos recording studio in Kyrgyzstan in 2026, which will allow the entire post-production process to take place within the country,” added the deputy minister.
During his speech, he also noted that government support for the film industry has significantly increased. If before 2020 less than 100 million soms were allocated for film development, this amount could reach one billion soms by 2025-2026. Thus, the budget for film production has increased tenfold over the past five years.
With the increase in funding, the requirements for the quality of the produced content are also becoming stricter. The Ministry of Culture conducted an analysis to determine how well films meet audience expectations and have export potential for entering international markets.
To improve the process, a "single window" system will be implemented, and scripts will go through the artistic councils of the National Cinema "Kyrgyzfilm" and "Kyrgyzserial." The final decision on the feasibility of filming will be made by the artistic-expert council at the Department of Cinematography.
