At the meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Agricultural Policy on January 12, 2026, Deputy Santalat Amanova raised the issue of the compliance of slaughterhouses in Kyrgyzstan with established standards.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Zhanibek Kerimaliev reported that there are slaughterhouses in the republic that fully meet veterinary and sanitary requirements. At the same time, he noted the existence of facilities that do not comply with these requirements and added that the Veterinary Service is taking measures to close them.

Amanova urged the Ministry of Agriculture to intensify efforts in this direction, collaborating with the PPP Center and the business community to increase the number of slaughterhouses.

The deputy also inquired about the number of registered outbreaks of anthrax in the country.

According to the Director of the Veterinary and Livestock Development Service, Adilet Sotovaldiyev, there are 567 anthrax outbreaks in Kyrgyzstan, of which 560 have been eliminated using local budget funds.

However, Amanova expressed doubt about this assessment, pointing to the complexity of the situation and the presence of Bekkari pits as one of the reasons. "Outbreaks may be closed, but not completely," she emphasized.

A biothermal pit (Bekkari pit) is a structure designed for the disposal of animal carcasses. It is built according to standard designs on a dry elevated area with a low groundwater level (no more than 2.5 m from the ground surface at their highest level) at least 1 km away from populated areas, water bodies, wells, and cattle drives (source).
