A resident of the Naryn region, Jumabubu Orozova, shared her story about how she managed to protect her husband from a wolf that attacked him.

Jumabubu, born in 1973 in At-Bashy, and her husband Ulan Duyshonaliev, born in 1974, are engaged in livestock farming.

The incident occurred on May 22, 2024, around 21:30, at the Sertal pasture in the At-Bashy district. For three days, wolves had been troubling the livestock, and that evening Ulan went out to put on his boots, which he had cleaned by the riverbank, when the predator attacked him.

According to Jumabubu, she heard cries for help and ran outside. “I saw my husband struggling with the wolf. In a panic, I ran home, grabbed a knife, and rushed to help. I managed to tie the predator's legs and struck it 2-3 times with the knife. When the wolf lunged at Ulan, he managed to close the wolf's mouth with his hand, and they continued to fight. There are bite marks from the wolf on my husband's hand. We underwent treatment and received a vaccine,” Orozova said.

Despite her fear, Jumabubu decided to take the risk to save her husband. “I was in shock. The neighbors were far away, and no one could hear the cries for help. After we dealt with the wolf, it was taken to a veterinary clinic for examination. No rabies was found. Ulan is feeling fine now, but there are many wolves in our area,” she added.

The couple has three children: one son and two daughters.

There have already been recorded cases of wolf attacks on people in Kyrgyzstan. For example, in 2014, in the Ak-Tala district, local resident Omurakunov spent about half an hour fighting with a wolf, after which he managed to bring it alive to the village.

Azamat Chidinov, a resident of the village of Tilekmata in the Jeti-Oguz district, is engaged in animal husbandry and once got trapped in the snow in the Issyk-Kul mountains, where he butchered a wolf for survival.

In November 2017, Esenzhan kyzy Elnura from the village of Ak-Shiyrak killed a wolf with a knife to the heart on the festive day of November 7.

The predator also attacked Mirbek Kelgenbaev while he was repairing his car in the Sarychat-Ertash Nature Reserve.
