On February 26, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Jeenbek Kulubaev, participated in a ministerial-level meeting in London organized in the format of "Central Asia – United Kingdom." This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan.
Among the participants were the foreign ministers of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan, as well as the UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs.
The discussion addressed issues related to strengthening dialogue in the new regional format, including trade-economic, investment, transport cooperation, and joint efforts to combat current threats. The participants concluded that the "C5+UK" format could become an important platform for systematic dialogue and practical steps to deepen cooperation.
In his speech, Kulubaev emphasized the significance of Central Asia as a key geopolitical region situated between Asia and Europe, with rich energy resources, a large human potential, and wide opportunities for transit. He highlighted that the successful resolution of border issues between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan and Tajikistan demonstrates an example of effective cooperation and opens new horizons for economic and investment ties with other countries, including the UK.
The minister also stressed the need to expand bilateral and regional interaction with the UK in the areas of trade, finance, energy, transport, climate, and education. He expressed hope that the success of the "C5+UK" format would be reflected through concrete projects, investments, and educational initiatives, as well as sustainable cooperation mechanisms.
Discussing sanctions issues, Kulubaev expressed concern about the negative impact of unilateral restrictive measures on trade and financial cooperation between Central Asia and the UK. He emphasized that Kyrgyzstan opposes the politicization of international economic relations and is ready for an open dialogue to find mutually acceptable solutions.
