On March 7, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh Marlen Mamataliyev held a meeting with representatives of relevant government agencies, as well as with coaches and athletes.
According to the parliament's press service, participants discussed the current state of sports and the need to improve the legislative framework.
Athletes had previously approached the speaker with various issues in this area.
Mamataliyev noted that in recent years, physical culture and sports have received significant attention, mentioning the construction of many sports facilities with the support of President Sadyr Japarov. However, he emphasized that the existing laws no longer meet modern requirements.
The speaker highlighted the importance of making changes to the legislation.
“We need to work together, exchange opinions, and discuss current issues. No one knows the problems in this area better than you do,” he noted.
For the sustainable development of sports, he stated that it is important to clearly define the powers of the relevant agencies and federations, as well as to establish the amount of funding allocated by the state. Transparency in the expenditure of funds was also deemed critically important.
During the discussion, it was proposed to develop a new law on professional sports that would take into account the work experience of athletes, create opportunities for their employment after the end of their careers, and ensure state support in case of accidents. It is also necessary to create a clear mechanism for participation in republican and international competitions.
In addition, Mamataliyev emphasized the need to align anti-doping regulations with international standards and to introduce measures to tighten the responsibility of athletes.
“In the development of sports, it is also important to promote public-private partnerships and create conditions for investors who want to invest in the sports sector. The introduction of 5- and 10-year strategic plans for the development of this area is relevant,” concluded the speaker.
At the meeting, coaches and athletes proposed a number of ideas that will be taken into account in the development of new legislation.
