In Osh, the process of clearing the territory of the "Kelechek" market, which has been relocated to a new site, continues. Turmush correspondent reports that vacant containers are being removed from the site, some of which are already up for sale, while others are being dismantled. Currently, there are still many containers on the market territory, and some of them have become sources of garbage.

Earlier, the city administration made the decision to relocate this market, and traders began moving to the new location. At the moment, work is ongoing to clear the territory and remove the remaining containers.

An important event was the disconnection of water supply and electricity at the "Kelechek" market on February 28, which occurred approximately from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM. This was done in connection with the start of work to transfer traders to new trading places. Many of them stated that they could not access the market to retrieve their goods and expressed dissatisfaction that the containers were being taken away along with their cargo.

According to the traders, they could not enter the market on either February 27 or February 28. During this time, the city administration began work on relocating the market to a new site, while traders gathered but were unable to access the territory. They had previously met with the new mayor and requested a postponement until September to have time to purchase places at the new market.

The mayor emphasized the importance of supporting entrepreneurs and familiarized himself with the progress of construction of the new market. The relocation of the "Kelechek" market is also linked to plans to improve the central part of the city, which involves freeing up roads and creating comfortable conditions for trade.

In 2024, after the central market on the banks of the Ak-Buura River was flooded, work began on constructing a new market on the outskirts of the city. Last year, the "Beksultan" and "Kiyim-keke" markets, as well as other construction material markets, were also relocated.

The relocation of the "Kelechek" market is scheduled for March 2026. Traders have repeatedly protested against this decision, claiming that about 1,200 people are employed in their business and that they legally acquired their trading places.

In 2024, the city administration proposed to allocate 3 hectares of land at the new central market for the relocation of market owners; however, this proposal was not accepted. In 2025, the issue was reviewed again, and traders were offered 3.5 hectares of land with the possibility of relocating containers, but this proposal also did not gain support.

The relocation of markets is aimed at organizing urban infrastructure and improving conditions for trade. Work on relocating the central market began on July 1 of last year. The new market, construction of which began in September 2024, will occupy 6.7 hectares and will include 2,400 trading places, with total investments amounting to 550 million soms.

On July 24, 2024, deputies of the Osh city council made the decision to relocate the central market located on Bazar Street to another territory, followed by a ban on placing trading objects on this site. An alley with sidewalks and bike paths is planned to be created on the site of the old market.

Powerful mudflows that struck the city on July 14, 2024, caused significant destruction. Dozens of residential buildings and social facilities were damaged, and trading areas at the central market were flooded. As a result of the incident, 6 people died, including 4 members of one family.

In connection with this tragedy, a state of emergency was declared in the city. On July 15, the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers visited the affected areas, acknowledging the scale of the disaster as unprecedented in the last 30 years.
The issue of relocating the "Kelechek" market was raised again on July 17, 2025, when it became known that sellers were unwilling to move due to high prices for new trading places. On July 31, a meeting of traders who refused to relocate took place, and on August 1, some of them continued to work despite the power outage.
During discussions, the city administration proposed alternative solutions for traders, including land plots near the new "Zhibek-Zholu" market, and ensured the connection of necessary utilities for operation at the new site.
