Meta is actively deleting posts by Kazakhstani journalists and public activists related to the Constitution and the upcoming referendum. Hundreds of publications have been removed in recent hours, with complaints coming from someone using the name "Giorgio Armani," reports Exclusive.kz.
Journalist Murat Daniyar, who conducts political research under the nickname JURTTYŃ BALASY, reported mass complaints against his Instagram account.
“My Instagram has come under attack. Posts are being reported en masse, and they are being deleted. Usually, after 3-4 complaints, the account gets blocked, but that hasn't happened yet. The likelihood of this is very high. Already 15 posts have been deleted. Complaints are being filed by someone named Giorgio Armani,” he noted.
According to him, all 15 publications disappeared in just 10 minutes. The reason for the deletions was complaints about intellectual property violations. To restore the content, users are advised to contact the rights holder via email, while appealing the actions of Meta itself is not possible.
“The deletions continue. It is actually very easy to manipulate Meta's algorithm,” the journalist added.
Recently, on March 4, Murat Daniyar published a video analysis titled “How was the Constitution rewritten? (and why each amendment is worse than the last).” In this video, he examines the changes to Kazakhstan's Fundamental Law from 1993 to 2026 and discusses the amendments proposed for the referendum. Additionally, he created a website where users can conduct a line-by-line comparison of the current Constitution and the new version submitted for the referendum.
UPD. Murat Daniyar reported that as a result of the complaints from Giorgio Armani, almost all of his posts from 2026 were deleted from his Instagram today.
Lawyer Murat Adam also reported similar deletions, having lost his license in January due to publications on social media. He noted that posts from his account disappeared after copyright complaints from the same Giorgio Armani.
“Today I received notifications about the removal of several of my posts due to copyright complaints. The complaint was filed by Giorgio Armani. Over the last two days, all my old and irrelevant publications related to former editor-in-chief Gulnar Bazhkenova have disappeared,” he clarified.
The lawyer added that the complaints also concerned publications related to his speech at the OSCE conference on human dimension, where pressure on independent media in Kazakhstan was discussed.
The number of deleted publications was not specified by Murat Adam.
Earlier, the editorial office of Respublika.kz.media reported on the mass deletion of posts due to complaints from Giorgio Armani without the possibility of appeal.
On the evening of March 8, the publication reported a further increase in the amount of deleted content. Previously, there were 57 posts on Facebook, but now, according to the editorial office, about 100 publications have already been deleted.
It is reported that almost all posts from the publication for the period from January to March have disappeared from Instagram. Additionally, all publications posted after February 22 were deleted from the personal page of editor-in-chief Irina Petrushova.
“They even deleted that post I wrote just recently,” Petrushova shared.
UPD 2. Respublika.kz.media reports that their posts on Facebook and Instagram are now deleted immediately after publication.
UPD 3. Journalist Irina Petrushova posted on her page with the text:
“And if I post a cat here, will it also be deleted?”.
Shortly after, Meta deleted this post again under the pretext of copyright infringement by “Giorgio Armani,” the publication reports.
