The Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Feridun Sinirlioğlu, visited Kyrgyzstan, where he met with President Sadyr Japarov.
According to the press service of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the main focus of the discussions was on strengthening cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the OSCE, as well as the possibilities for expanding the Organization's project presence in the country to implement joint initiatives.
Sadyr Japarov also highlighted the effective work of the OSCE Program Office in Bishkek, noting that 22 projects are currently being implemented. Among them, the OSCE Academy located in the capital is particularly successful.
He expressed gratitude to the OSCE for its support in various areas, such as reforming the judicial and law enforcement systems, digitalization, improving public administration, as well as protecting human rights and democratic freedoms.
The importance of cooperation with Central Asia was emphasized by the President as a key priority of Kyrgyzstan's foreign policy. He noted that the visit of the Secretary General coincides with the anniversary of the signing of historic agreements on state borders with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
In this context, Sadyr Japarov confirmed support for the OSCE's activities aimed at ensuring sustainable peace and strengthening trust in border areas.
Feridun Sinirlioğlu, for his part, thanked for the warm welcome and noted that under Sadyr Japarov's leadership, Kyrgyzstan has achieved significant progress in socio-economic development.
He emphasized the achievements in democracy and the increased representation of women in the parliament and politics of the country.
Additionally, the Secretary General noted that Kyrgyzstan's foreign policy is aimed at establishing good-neighborly relations and adheres to the principles of international law. He highlighted President Japarov's contribution to ensuring security and cooperation in Central Asia.
During the meeting, the President expressed concern about the current complex geopolitical situation, particularly the conflict in the Middle East, which is causing suffering to civilians and destruction of infrastructure in neighboring countries.
In conclusion, the parties noted the importance of peacefully resolving all disputed issues, as stated in the press service's message.
