Recently, a meeting took place between the head of the Kyrgyz government, Adylbek Kasymaliev, and Peter Sorensen, who holds the position of Deputy Head of the Security Division of the European Commission and Chairman of the EU Aviation Safety Committee. The main topic of discussion was the removal of Kyrgyz airlines from the blacklist, as well as the timeline for making a final decision on this matter, as reported by the press service of the cabinet.

EU Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Remy Duflo also participated in the negotiations.

It is worth noting that the modernization of all 11 airports in the country has been completed, and the fleet is being replenished with new aircraft.

Sorensen highlighted the positive changes, emphasizing the improvement of legislation and significant government support for the aviation sector. He also added that the visit is part of the assessment procedure, and the final decision will be made by the EU committee in May of this year.

Kasymaliev, in turn, emphasized the importance of this issue for the country, noting that a positive decision would open new horizons for the development of both aviation and the economy of Kyrgyzstan.

It should be reminded that since 2006, all airlines in Kyrgyzstan have been on the European Union's blacklist. This means they cannot operate flights over the territories of EU countries due to non-compliance with international safety standards. To be removed from this list, they must meet the established requirements.

In October 2025, representatives of the State Agency for Civil Aviation of the Kyrgyz Republic (GACA) participated in a technical meeting in Brussels organized by the European Commission (DG MOVE) as part of the ongoing process to remove Kyrgyzstan from the EU safety list.
