The Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan has presented a draft new regulation for public discussion concerning sanitary norms in educational institutions. This document proposes amendments to the government decree adopted on April 11, 2016, under number 201, particularly regarding sanitary and epidemiological requirements.

The main goal of the changes is to improve the conditions and organization of the educational process in schools.

The key proposals of the draft are as follows:

First, the placement of retail outlets selling harmful food products will be prohibited within a radius of 100 meters from schools.

Secondly, in densely built urban areas, the construction of school buildings up to four stories high is permitted. The upper floor may house facilities for services, as well as offices for a psychologist, speech therapist, and social educator.

When using adapted buildings for schools, it is necessary to ensure the presence of classrooms, cafeterias, medical offices, recreational areas, administrative and utility rooms, as well as restrooms and cloakrooms.

Basements can be used for libraries, gyms, or assembly halls, only if sanitary norms regarding lighting, ventilation, and temperature are met.

In gymnasiums, it is recommended to create separate changing rooms and restrooms for boys and girls, as well as showers, if feasible from a technical standpoint of the building. If there is no dedicated gym, nearby sports facilities can be used.
