At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Gulnara Baatyrova shared alarming information about the situation in the country's oncology service.

World Cancer Day, celebrated on February 4, served as a reason to discuss current issues in this field. On February 3, an event was held at the Oncology Center where the most important questions were raised and the current state of the service was analyzed.

According to the deputy, about 6,000 new cases of cancer are recorded in Kyrgyzstan each year, and among them, there are fatalities. Approximately 35,000 patients are registered in the country.

Cancer ranks second in terms of mortality, second only to cardiovascular diseases. In 40% of cases, the disease is diagnosed at stages 3-4, which significantly complicates treatment.

Baatyrova also emphasized that the situation with radiation therapy is extremely dire: for a population of 7 million, 20 linear accelerator machines are needed, but there are only three available, which often break down. "The lack of molecular and immunohistochemical diagnostics is also a serious problem," she noted.

Additionally, the deputy pointed out the shortage of 80 essential medicines and the lack of narcotic analgesics in palliative care.

To improve the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, Baatyrova proposed creating a research institute based at the Oncology Center.
