Doctors from the Bishkek Health Strengthening Center shared information about the signs and consequences of a stroke.
According to medical specialists, this condition can occur suddenly and poses a threat of paralysis as well as life. If any of the symptoms appear, it is essential to seek medical help immediately.
A stroke is an acute disturbance of cerebral circulation, where the cessation of blood supply to a specific area of the brain leads to damage or death of nerve cells. This condition progresses rapidly, and within the first minutes, brain tissue begins to suffer, which can affect functions such as speech, movement, and memory.
There are two main types of stroke that specialists pay attention to.
The first type is ischemic stroke, which occurs as a result of a vessel being blocked by a thrombus or its spasm, causing blood to stop flowing to the brain.
The second type is hemorrhagic stroke, which develops when a vessel ruptures, leading to bleeding in the brain.
Among the sudden symptoms of a stroke, the following can be highlighted: weakness or numbness of one arm or leg, facial drooping, sudden headache, deterioration of vision in one eye, slurred speech, or complete inability to speak.
A stroke often develops against the background of such diseases as arterial hypertension, atherosclerosis, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes. The risk of its occurrence increases due to excess weight, lack of physical activity, smoking, alcohol abuse, chronic stress, and emotional tension.
Medical workers emphasize that even one of the listed signs is a reason to call for emergency help immediately. It is important to inform the dispatcher about the observed symptoms. The first 3-4 hours after the onset of symptoms are considered critically important—timely treatment significantly reduces the likelihood of severe consequences.
