In Thailand, tourists are asked to adhere to new rules due to mourning

Starting from October 24, following the death of Queen Mother Sirikit, the authorities of Thailand are urging tourists to observe certain rules, although strict restrictions for foreign guests are not being imposed. According to RIA Novosti, travelers are strongly recommended to show respect for the Thai people and dress modestly.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) clarified that all major tourist attractions, including restaurants and shops, continue to operate as usual. The exception is the Grand Royal Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, which will be closed from October 26 to November 8 as part of the mourning activities.

The celebration of Loy Krathong, traditionally held in early November, will also take place, but in a more subdued format — without loud celebrations and beauty contests.

Tourists are advised to avoid bright clothing, noisy parties, and inappropriate comments on social media. It is important to remember that insulting the monarchy in Thailand is considered a criminal offense, punishable by imprisonment for a term of 3 to 15 years.

The mourning for the Queen Mother will last until November 25, and government officials in the country will wear mourning colors throughout the year.
