The State Duma announced a possible restriction on the operation of all Google services in Russia

The reason lies in the storage of Russian citizens' data abroad

According to the deputies of the State Duma, the operation of all Google services may be threatened in Russia due to the existing law regarding the storage of personal data. Deputy Andrey Svintsov noted in an interview with "Gazeta.ru" that the company stores information about Russian citizens outside the country, which creates a "serious threat." The list of services subject to restrictions includes the Google search engine, Gmail, Google Maps, the video platform YouTube, Google Drive cloud storage, the Chrome browser, and other applications.

In Svintsov's opinion, there is a trend in Russia of "softly squeezing out everything American," and to preserve the economy and statehood, it is necessary to consider all aspects of the current reality. The deputy pointed out that businesses have already become accustomed to using Google services and have built their infrastructure based on them. However, Russian IT solutions, according to him, "are no worse than Western ones." "They are modern and recently developed, many of them are even better in quality. Some require further development, but this will take not years, but possibly six months. Existing market solutions will be refined," he emphasized.

Moreover, the deputy added that the operation of Google services in Russia may gradually slow down to allow citizens and businesses to transition to domestic alternatives.
