The State Duma of the Russian Federation is asking the government to denounce the double citizenship agreement with Tajikistan

Mikhail Delyagin, a deputy of the State Duma, expressed his concern regarding the existing double citizenship agreement with Tajikistan and called for its denunciation. He claims that this agreement contributes to the rise in crime and creates unfair conditions for citizens of other post-Soviet republics.

According to the parliamentarian, the continuation of this agreement leads to an increase in the flow of migrants from Tajikistan to Russia, which in turn creates social problems. Delyagin emphasizes that migration is primarily social in nature, rather than labor-related, which, according to him, negatively impacts Russia's social security system and disrupts the ethnic and confessional balance in the country. This can lead to an increase in crime and the emergence of parallel power structures, which, in turn, undermines the authority of the Russian state among both new and old citizens. Ultimately, such processes may lead to an increase in socio-political tension in society.
