In the capital of Germany, Berlin, a meeting took place between the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and high-ranking representatives of the United States — Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner. This was reported by Zelensky himself on his social media.
The negotiations lasted more than five hours and will continue on December 15, as noted by the advisor to the President of Ukraine, Dmytro Litvin.
The main topic of discussion was the peace plan proposed by the United States. According to information from Western media, during the meeting, the reaction of Kyiv to Washington's proposals is expected to be discussed. As reported by The New York Times, Ukraine insists on maintaining control over the eastern territories, where the country's armed forces are currently located.
The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, is also participating in the negotiations.
The Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, was present at the meeting but left shortly after the greeting. The moderator of the session remained his advisor on foreign policy and security, Günther Sauter.
Steve Witkoff, commenting on the results of the meeting, emphasized that "significant progress" had been made.
"The parties held detailed discussions on the 20-point peace plan, economic issues, and other relevant topics. The discussions were quite productive, and they will meet again tomorrow morning," he noted on social media platform X.
