Kobiljon, who was killed on December 16 at school, was buried in his hometown on December 18. The boy's body was brought to Tajikistan that same morning, and hundreds of people came to say goodbye, including residents not only from the Shahrinav district but also from other parts of the country. The funeral was attended by law enforcement officials, who restricted media coverage. The funeral prayer was led by the Mufti of Tajikistan, Saidmukarram Abdulqodirzoda, the publication reports.

The tragedy occurred when a 15-year-old student from the Uspenskaya Secondary School in the village of Gorki-2 came to the educational institution with a knife and a gas canister. As a result of the attack, he injured a security guard and killed Kobiljon. The teenager then barricaded himself in one of the classrooms, taking another student hostage. The police detained him, and during the interrogation, he confessed to the crime.

The Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case on charges of murder and attempted murder. If the teenager is found to be sane, he could face up to 10 years in a juvenile correction facility.

According to one version, the motive for the crime was the attacker's xenophobic views: before the attack, he asked students about their nationality and had previously sent aggressive manifestos against various groups to his classmates. According to other information, his target was a mathematics teacher, for whom he may have prepared an improvised explosive device.

Kobiljon's mother worked as a cleaner at the same school and raised two sons alone after losing her husband.

The Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Internal Affairs, and the Ombudsman of Tajikistan called on their Russian counterparts to conduct a thorough and objective investigation into the murder of Kobiljon Aliyev and to ensure just punishment for those responsible. The Russian side confirmed that it is taking all necessary measures to conduct a comprehensive investigation. After information about the tragedy appeared in the media, the Russian Foreign Ministry offered assistance to the Tajik Embassy, to which it received a response requesting an objective investigation. The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed condolences to the Tajik side.

The incident at Uspenskaya School was also discussed by the Secretaries of the Security Councils of Russia and Tajikistan — Sergey Shoigu and Yusuf Rahmon.
