Tajik boy killed in a school in the Moscow region. Dushanbe claims it was a hate crime based on nationality

The tragedy occurred on December 16, when Kobiljon, like many other students, went to school unaware of the impending horror. According to the investigation, high school student Timofey K. brought a knife and a gas canister to school, and his clothing was adorned with the slogan "No Lives Matter," indicating his connection to violent online communities.

Kobiljon was in class when the attack began. Witnesses reported that at the moment of the threat, he was confused as the teacher tried to organize a safe exit for the children. Instead, the boy ran to the stairs, where he was caught by the attacker.

According to the investigation, for 15 minutes, Timofey recorded his actions on video. He began the attack in the school restroom, where he left a dummy explosive device, and then walked through the hallways in search of one of the teachers, which ultimately led to an encounter with a group of children.

The recordings show Timofey approaching the children with a knife and asking about their nationality, after which he attacked the security guard.

The children who witnessed the attack began to scatter. The suspect followed one of them, stabbing him until he fell, after which he took a selfie with the boy's body.

After the attack, Timofey hid in an empty classroom, where he was later apprehended by special forces.

About the circumstances of the deceased's life

Kobiljon was the son of cleaner Nilufer Safoeva, a 35-year-old citizen of Tajikistan. He has a younger brother who also studied in his class.

According to the Russian publication mk.ru, at the time of the attack, Kobiljon tried to distract the attacker by shouting "Dada! Dada!" in an attempt to protect himself.

Kobiljon's family is positively characterized by neighbors. Nilufer worked multiple jobs to provide for her children after the death of her husband, who served in the border troops of Tajikistan.

On the eve of the tragedy, the woman planned to send her sons to Tajikistan, as their passports were about to expire.

Condition of the suspect

The Investigative Committee of Russia has initiated a criminal case regarding the facts of murder and attempted murder. The suspect has been detained and is giving testimony.

A psychological and psychiatric examination will be conducted to determine his sanity. The investigation will also examine his social circle and social media posts.

According to reports, the teenager sent a manifesto with neo-Nazi views to his classmates a few days before the attack. An arsenal of weapons, including a pistol and a bulletproof vest with extremist symbols, was found in his home.

Classmates report that the suspect had not appeared at school for several weeks but seemed normal and was performing well academically before the incident.

Reactions from the authorities of Tajikistan and Russia

On December 17, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan condemned the attack on Kobiljon, pointing to its national background.

The Russian ambassador to Tajikistan was summoned to receive a note demanding a thorough and impartial investigation.

The Minister of Internal Affairs of Tajikistan also appealed to his Russian counterpart, urging an investigation. He emphasized that such crimes could be exploited by radical groups to promote violence.

In response, Vladimir Kolokoltsev assured that the investigation is under control and measures are being taken to establish all the circumstances.

Russian politicians, for their part, caution against premature conclusions about nationalism in this crime. State Duma deputy Mikhail Matveev noted that the teenager may have been imitating Western models of crime rather than expressing Russian nationalism.

The governor of the Moscow region, Andrey Vorobyov, described the incident as a crime of extreme brutality and called for a thorough analysis of the situation to prevent a recurrence.

The children's ombudsman of the Moscow region, Ksenia Mishonova, expressed dissatisfaction with the dissemination of video footage from the crime scene, calling it unethical towards the victims.
