At the age of 55, Call of Duty developer Vince Zampella has died

As reported by NBC, Vince Zampella tragically died in a car accident on the Angeles Crest Highway, located north of Los Angeles in the San Gabriel Mountains. His red Ferrari 296 GTS exited a tunnel, crashed into a concrete barrier, and caught fire. The developer was trapped in the burning vehicle and died at the scene. A passenger, ejected from the car as a result of the impact, was taken to the hospital but also passed away; their identity has not yet been disclosed.

Zampella was one of the founders of the Call of Duty franchise and co-founder of Respawn Entertainment, which was acquired by Electronic Arts in 2017. Respawn is known for games such as Titanfall, Titanfall 2, Apex Legends, and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. In addition to this, Zampella led a team of developers at EA working on the Battlefield series.

Electronic Arts expressed its condolences to the family and friends of Vince Zampella, noting that "this is an irreplaceable loss. Vince was a friend, colleague, and outstanding leader whose vision and creativity had a significant impact on the modern gaming industry, inspiring millions of players and developers around the world."
