As a result of the incident that occurred on December 22 on Yasenevaya Street, an explosive device planted under a car detonated. According to a representative of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Svetlana Petrenko, the explosion resulted in the death of Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, who held the position of head of the operational training department of the General Staff. Earlier, news reports indicated that an unknown man was injured in the car explosion on this street. Later, information appeared on Telegram channels suggesting that this could have been General Sarvarov.
The Investigative Committee of Russia has initiated a criminal case under articles related to murder committed by a dangerous method, as well as illegal handling of explosives.
In a press release, the Investigative Committee stated that the investigation is considering various versions, including the possibility of involvement of Ukrainian special services in organizing the crime.
According to information from the Telegram channels Shot and Baza, the Kia Sorento parked near a residential building was the site of the incident.
According to RBC, the 56-year-old victim was trapped in the car but was soon extracted and taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Fanil Sarvarov graduated from the Kazan Higher Tank Command School in 1990 and continued his education at the Malinovsky Military Academy of Armored Forces, and then at the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia.
As reported by the newspaper Kommersant, after completing his studies, the general continued his career in the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff and in the operational training department of the Armed Forces. Since 2016, he held the position of head of the department.
Sarvarov participated in combat operations in Chechnya and, according to the publication, was involved in organizing operations in Syria in 2015-2016.
In May 2024, the lieutenant general was awarded a title by a decree of the President of Russia.
