According to authorities, the incident happened near the town of Adamus in the province of Córdoba when one of the trains derailed and entered the opposite track, colliding with another train. Both trains derailed, with one of them falling from an embankment.
According to police data, at least 21 people were killed in the tragedy, and around a hundred passengers were injured, with at least 25 in critical condition. The injured were urgently hospitalized in medical facilities in Andalusia.



The accident occurred around 6:40 PM local time, just ten minutes after the departure of a train operated by the private company Iryo, which was traveling from Córdoba to Madrid. The second train, Alvia, belongs to the state company Renfe and was traveling from Madrid to Huelva. According to media reports, it was traveling at a speed of about 200 km/h at the time of the collision.
The causes of the collision have not yet been established. Spain's Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, expressed concern about the derailment on a straight section of track, raising many questions. An investigation is being conducted by the railway infrastructure operator Adif.
Emergency services and military teams arrived at the scene to provide assistance. Rescue operations are ongoing, and access to the site of the disaster is difficult. Authorities warn that the death toll may rise.
Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez canceled his events and took personal control of the situation. The royal family expressed condolences to all who lost loved ones and were affected by this tragedy.
