The disaster occurred on January 14 in the Ban Thanon Khot area of Sikhiu. A construction crane involved in the erection of a railway bridge fell onto a train traveling from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani. As a result of the incident, the train derailed and caught fire, with passengers trapped in the destroyed carriages.
According to official representatives, the high-speed train collided with the fallen crane, after which its parts collapsed onto the train.
