The Prime Minister of Japan, Sanae Takichi, made a bold statement during debates with party leaders ahead of the elections for the lower house of parliament, which will take place on February 8. According to her, she will resign if the coalition of the Liberal Democratic Party and the "Japan Innovation Party" ("Nippon Ishin no Kai") fails to secure more than half of the seats in parliament, reports RIA Novosti.
Takichi noted that usually, after the dissolution of parliament, the government's approval rating often drops, but in her opinion, the current figures are not so bad. "If the LDP loses, I will not be able to continue my work as Prime Minister and implement my plans. Therefore, if the coalition does not gain more than half of the seats, I will immediately resign. I will strive to work at full capacity," she added, commenting on her feelings regarding the declining ratings.
According to the latest poll data, Takichi's government approval rating is about 60%, however, the results show a decrease of 4-10 percentage points depending on the specific survey.
