The night of January 31 became the coldest in Moscow since the beginning of winter

On the same day, the snow cover decreased by 1 cm, reaching 60 cm, which is a new record for the last day of January. The previous record, set in 1994, was 59 cm.

This week, Moscow experienced heavy snowfall that lasted for three days and brought 21 mm of precipitation, which is 40% of the monthly norm. Due to the sharp drop in temperature, an orange weather hazard level was declared in Moscow and the region. According to the Hydrometeorological Center, today's temperature in the capital is expected to be around –12…–14°C, while in the Moscow region, frosts of up to –17°C are possible.
