According to Umarzoda, criminal cases against these employees were initiated by law enforcement agencies, and they were suspended from their positions. Currently, some cases are under investigation, and additional information will be provided later.

On February 4, the State Energy Supervision Agency under the President of Tajikistan informed Asia-Plus that last year, 406 employees of energy supply organizations were fined a total of 293,000 somoni for violations in electricity consumption. Of these, 375 worked at the Open Joint Stock Company "Distribution Electric Networks," 12 at the Open Joint Stock Company "Transmission Electric Networks," 9 at the company "Barki Tojik," and 10 at "Pamir Energy."

The fines were imposed based on Articles 394 and 397 of the Code of Administrative Offenses for "violating the rules for using energy resources and operating electrical and thermal equipment, as well as instruments and devices."

Earlier, a representative of the Agency reported that in 2025, employees of the Open Joint Stock Company "Distribution Electric Networks" misappropriated nearly 321.5 million kWh of electricity, causing damage to the state budget amounting to 106.4 million somoni.

It is not specified how many employees of the electric networks are involved in the misappropriations and how many of them have been punished.

The Agency has repeatedly reported on the detention of employees of electric networks and the initiation of criminal cases for electricity theft. In particular, in January of this year, two cases of unauthorized connection of a power line from a substation to a residential house were recorded, committed by two employees of the distribution networks, for which they were fined 2,250 somoni.

Measures to combat electricity thieves have become stricter after penalties for illegal use of electricity and evasion of payment were tightened.

According to the Criminal Code of Tajikistan, individuals who violate the rules for using electricity or evade payment may face fines ranging from 27,000 to 90,000 somoni or imprisonment for a term of 3 to 10 years. Administrative fines for electricity theft have also been increased.
