The founder of Telegram, Pavel Durov, confirmed that the messenger will continue to protect freedom of speech and the right to privacy of its users. This statement was his first comment after Roskomnadzor decided to slow down the app's operation in Russia.

In his Telegram channel, Durov emphasized: "Restricting the freedom of citizens is never the right solution. Telegram defends freedom of speech and the right to privacy, regardless of the pressure."

He also recalled an incident that occurred eight years ago when a court in Iran banned the use of Telegram. "Iran tried to apply a similar strategy but was unsuccessful. Despite the ban, many Iranians continue to use Telegram, circumventing censorship," Durov added.
