Roskomnadzor (RKN) continues to strengthen control over the operation of the WhatsApp messenger, considering the possibility of its complete blocking. The reason for such measures is the systematic violations of the legislation of the Russian Federation, as reported by Kazinform.
Despite this, WhatsApp remains the most in-demand messenger in the country, with the number of active users approaching 100 million.
RKN emphasizes that restrictions on the use of the messenger will continue until its developers bring the application in line with Russian regulations.
“We will continue to impose restrictions on WhatsApp. If the messenger does not comply with the legal requirements, it will be completely blocked,” the official statement from Roskomnadzor says.
The restrictive measures will be implemented in stages to give users the opportunity to switch to alternative communication platforms. Additionally, according to media reports, since December 22, the speed of WhatsApp in Russia has decreased by 70-80%.
