“WhatsApp has become an integral part of people's lives in Russia — from communication in parent and work groups to friendly and family chats in various regions of the country. We intend to defend the interests of our users, as forcing the use of less secure government-approved applications can lead to a deterioration of safety for citizens of Russia,” the company representative noted.
According to information, Roskomnadzor began blocking WhatsApp in 2025. In a recent report, a source from RBC in the telecommunications sector stated that the messenger's performance in Russia has already dropped by 70-80 percent.
