
Mongolia has signed a contract worth €23 million with the French company Thales for the comprehensive modernization of its air traffic management system. This was reported by MiddleAsianNews.
A delegation headed by Transport Minister Delgersaikhan Borhuu is currently on an official visit to the French Republic and has signed a comprehensive project agreement worth €23 million with Thales, a leading global technology enterprise, for implementation in the civil aviation sector of Mongolia.
According to the terms of the agreement, key systems and equipment will be installed to create regional air traffic control centers in Ulaanbaatar and Sainshand. Measures to improve cybersecurity and enhance staff qualifications are also included.
Of the total funding, 85% will be provided through an export credit from Bpifrance, the French government’s investment bank.
The signing of the financing agreement took place with the participation of Orkhon Onon, Executive Director of the Trade Development Bank, Ganbold Purevjav, Acting Executive Director of the "National Civil Aviation Center," Yuga Latourette, Chief Financial Officer of Bpifrance, and Juzek Kurpa, Vice President of the Thales Group.

Bpifrance is a national development bank supported by the French government that invests in significant strategic projects, providing financing, export credit guarantees, and insurance services. It also supports the growth of companies and innovation.
During the visit, Minister Delgersaikhan Borhuu met with Shems Shkiua, Director General of the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC). They discussed issues related to expanding cooperation in civil aviation, sharing experiences in air navigation services, and aviation safety. The parties also considered the possibility of expert exchanges and joint training to harmonize reforms in Mongolia's civil aviation with international standards.
During his official visit to France on February 19, Delgersaikhan met with representatives of Thales Air Mobility Solutions to discuss cybersecurity in air navigation systems. Participants discussed air traffic management, navigation infrastructure, and the implementation of international standards.

In connection with the digital transformation in civil aviation, a Q&A session was held with engineers and technicians on cybersecurity and system reliability.
Delgersaikhan noted that this meeting is important for enhancing the safety potential of Mongolia's civil aviation and expressed gratitude to Thales Air Mobility Solutions for their willingness to engage in long-term cooperation in new air navigation management technologies.
