The UN also emphasized that "when women participate in peace negotiations, the agreements reached are more sustainable." "Economic development, when women make decisions, leads to increased profits. Society becomes more peaceful and prosperous when women and girls have equal rights with men and boys," the organization added.
The #LikeAWoman campaign aims to change traditional narratives by telling stories of women who overcome challenges in various fields and regions. These stories cover a wide range of areas—from conflict zones to scientific laboratories, sports fields, and outer space—showing what it means to live and succeed on one's own terms.
In the lead-up to International Women's Day and during the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, which will take place in New York from March 9 to 19, the President of the General Assembly will share photos of successful women and their inspiring quotes on Instagram.
Examples of these quotes may include: "I was told that women don't belong in the news department. So I took the editor-in-chief's chair" and "I was told that I couldn't reach the stars. So I flew to space," the UN stated.
It is worth noting that Annalena Baerbock is the fifth woman to hold the position of President of the UN General Assembly and the first representative from Western Europe to hold this position. Previously, she served as Germany's Minister of Foreign Affairs.
