The El Niño phenomenon, characterized by the warming of surface waters in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean, may manifest as early as the end of 2026. This is reported by the Kazinform agency, citing information from BILD.
This phenomenon occurs with a frequency of two to seven years and significantly affects climatic conditions worldwide. Scientists warn of possible floods, droughts, and abnormally high temperatures in various regions.
According to meteorologist Dominik Jung, such years are marked by droughts, floods, and extreme heat. In particular, in the case of a "super El Niño," which occurs once every 10-15 years, ocean water temperatures can increase by more than two degrees, exacerbating negative consequences.
Climatologist Karsten Brandt noted that the peak of El Niño is expected in November 2026, with maximum effects likely to manifest by January 2027. He stated that years when El Niño occurs are accompanied by global changes in weather and natural disasters, which can lead to destruction and economic losses.
The consequences of this phenomenon can be severe:
North America: an abnormally hot summer is expected in the western United States, along with an increased risk of droughts and wildfires.
Southeast Asia: countries such as the Philippines, China, and Japan may face typhoons.
Australia, Indonesia, East Africa, and the Caribbean: extreme temperatures and drought are forecasted.
Peru and Ecuador: heavy rains and flooding are expected.
Tropical regions of South America, Africa, and the Middle East: high humidity and intense heat.
Experts note that El Niño affects atmospheric flows, leading to changes in winds, precipitation, and temperatures worldwide. In the case of a "super El Niño," the consequences can be particularly noticeable, including new climate records.
