The U.S. Senate refused to limit Trump's powers for war with Iran

The United States Senate has once again not supported a resolution prohibiting Donald Trump from waging war against Iran without the direct consent of Congress, reports Politico. 47 senators voted in favor of the resolution, while 53 voted against it.

The resolution was proposed by Republican Senator Rand Paul, who earlier in March also introduced a similar initiative, but it was rejected.

Politico emphasizes that Paul is the only Republican in the Senate who supported restrictions on Trump's military powers.

The publication notes that the voting results may indicate that Trump's supporters in the party continue to back the possibility of waging war with Iran.

In early January, the Senate approved a resolution that limited Trump's powers in Venezuela. In that vote, in addition to Rand Paul, four other Republicans supported the initiative.

Since February 28, the U.S. and Israel have begun striking Iran. In response, Iran is launching missiles and drones towards the Gulf countries, U.S. allies. The new conflict in the region has contributed to a sharp rise in energy resource prices worldwide.
