Every year on March 31, the world celebrates the 'International Day of Zero Waste Production,' established by a UN General Assembly resolution in 2022. This date aims to support sustainable production and consumption patterns and promote global efforts to reduce waste generation.
This year, the event organized by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) focused on the issue of food waste and its impact on the environmental situation.

As part of the event conducted in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN-Habitat, the Basel Regional Centre for Asia and the Pacific, and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia, a webinar was organized on the topic of "Mobilizing Urban Actions and International Cooperation for Achieving Zero Food Waste."
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Mongolia emphasized the importance of supporting this webinar as a platform for knowledge dissemination and strengthening the legal framework for zero waste initiatives. More than 100 participants, including representatives from the Ulaanbaatar city administration, the offices of governors from nine districts, as well as the cities of Erdenet, Darkhan, and Kharkhorin, participated in the hybrid event, including the aimags of Zavkhan, Khövsgöl, Khentii, Töv, Bulgan, Övörkhangai, and Dornod.
During the webinar, UN Resident Coordinator Jaap van Herden and the Secretary of State of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Batbayar Shürenchuluun highlighted the significance of strengthening cooperation and activating actions to achieve a sustainable waste-free future.
