Compared to the previous ten days, the snow cover in Mongolia has decreased by 14%

As of January 31, 73% of the territory of Mongolia is covered with snow, according to field measurements by the Meteorological Organization, which are conducted every ten days.

In some aimags, such as Uvs (including Khovd, Malchin, Khargaas, Baruunturuun, Tsagaanhairkhan), Khovd (Uench, Altai), Zavkhan (Tsetsen-Uul, Bayantes, Numrug, Tes, Asgat, Bayankhairkhan), Gobi-Altai (southern Tonkhila), Khövsgöl (Tsetsereg, Ulaan-Uul, Renchinlkhumbe, Alag-Erdene), Bulgan (Gurvanbulag, Dashinchilen), and Selenge (Yeroo, Orkhontuul, and others), snow thickness exceeds 21 cm with a density ranging from 0.16 to 0.35 g/cm³.

In other areas, such as Uvs (Züunkhangai, Tes, and others), Khovd (Bulgan), Zavkhan (Santmargats and others), as well as Khövsgöl (Tsagaan-Üür and Tarialan) and Bayankhongor (Jargalant), the thickness of the snow cover varies from 11 to 20 cm with a density from 0.11 to 0.30 g/cm³. In some places, the snow thickness is less than 10 cm, with a density ranging from 0.07 to 0.37 g/cm³.


The greatest snow thickness, reaching 31-47 cm, has been recorded in the sums of Khovd, Tsagaanhairkhan, Khargaas (Uvs aimag), Tsetsen-Uul, Bayantes, Numrug (Zavkhan aimag), Tsetsereg, Alag-Erdene (Khövsgöl aimag), as well as in Yeroo, Orkhontuul, Orkhon, and other places in Selenge aimag. Compared to the previous ten days, the snow cover level has decreased by 14 percent.
