It is also known for the 2009 incident when a plane departing from this airport collided with a flock of birds, resulting in both engines failing. Pilot Chesley Sullenberger was able to successfully land the plane on the water, which became known as the "Miracle on the Hudson." In that incident, none of the passengers or crew members were injured.
