The regional conference dedicated to joint actions to prevent pandemics took place in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. As part of the event, the first meeting of the regional coordination council for the "One Health" program was held, aimed at strengthening food security and protecting ecosystems in Central Asia.
The meeting was organized by the government of Tajikistan with the support of the World Bank, the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia, and a four-party partnership including FAO, WHO, OIE, and UNEP.
The "One Health" program aims to synchronize efforts from various sectors: health, agriculture, ecology, and food security to effectively respond to transboundary threats and create resilient ecosystems.
Kyrgyzstan was represented at the conference by Almaz Musaev, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision, as well as Bubuzhan Arykbaeva, Deputy Minister of Health and Chief Sanitary Doctor.
During the discussions, participants identified priority areas for regional cooperation, including:
- combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR);
- pandemic preparedness and zoonotic diseases;
- developing monitoring systems and sharing scientific data;
- strengthening national coordination structures for the "One Health" program.
"Kyrgyzstan supports the 'One Health' concept and considers it important to unite the efforts of all sectors to protect the health of people, animals, and the environment. We are ready to actively participate in creating joint coordination mechanisms and sharing experiences in Central Asia," noted Almaz Musaev.
