A discussion has erupted on social media between Deputy Prime Minister Edil Baysalov and educator Adil Kakenov from Karakol.

Kakenov, who is a teacher of Kyrgyz language and literature, graduated from Issyk-Kul State University named after K. Tynystanov. He recorded a video statement in which he pointed out that Baysalov's words about the need to dismiss 15-20% of ineffective teachers, subsequently replacing them with "people from the street," undermine the authority of the profession. Kakenov suggested that Baysalov undergo short-term courses in one of the subjects and then get a job at a remote rural school. If his students show progress after nine months, then his idea could be reconsidered.

Edil Baysalov responded to this in a video address on Instagram, emphasizing that he is not undermining the authority of teachers; on the contrary, he is advocating for them, and that those who watch the full interview will understand this. Nevertheless, he noted that there are individuals in schools who are hard to call real teachers.

According to Baysalov, "not everyone who receives a salary at a school can be called a teacher." He added that there is a problem with incompetent educators, including those who do not understand their subjects—mathematics, chemistry, physics, and English. "I am ready to take on the negative reaction for raising this issue because we must think about the future. We need to respectfully free schools from such people," he stated. "If we want our children to be successful, we must protect quality educators and raise their salaries. Therefore, your accusations of undermining the authority of teachers are inappropriate. This is not just a reform; it is a deep transformation, and it will continue," the Deputy Prime Minister added.

Baysalov acknowledged that his words might have seemed provocative when he spoke about the need to dismiss ineffective teachers; however, he believes he raised an important issue that has long been ignored.

Recall that earlier, in an interview with the "Nomad" TV channel, Edil Baysalov noted the necessity of dismissing 15-20% of ineffective teachers, suggesting replacing them with other specialists, including journalists, who would undergo short-term courses. These statements sparked an active reaction in society and on social media.

Later, in a conversation with Kaktus.media, he clarified his position. He indicated that he was referring to those teachers who, although they have diplomas from pedagogical faculties, do not adequately master the curriculum.
