Erkin Checheybaev, the Minister of Health, recently noted in an interview with the Kabar agency the necessity of increasing excise taxes on harmful products, including alcohol, carbonated drinks, and tobacco. According to him, the funds raised should be directed to the state budget to finance preventive measures, informational campaigns, and social ads dedicated to the harms of sugar, salt, and other dangerous substances.

The Minister emphasized the importance of limiting the availability of these products and the times they can be sold. He pointed to the example of developed countries, where there are strict bans on the sale of alcohol during nighttime, usually from 10 PM to morning. "In such countries, alcohol can only be purchased in restaurants, not in stores, until 9 AM-10 AM. Nighttime hours are often associated with crime, including drunk driving accidents and domestic violence. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the number of stores where alcohol and cigarettes can be purchased," he added.
